COLOR CONES WHAT IS THE PRODUCT? Magical color cones are pine cones that have been processed so that when burned in wood fires, they cause blue and green colors to appear in the orange flames. They are not intended to start fires but rather are tossed into established fires for the color effect. WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS? Natural pine cones, paraffin wax, copper sulfate, and ammonium chloride are used to produce color cones. You will find most of our packages contain a mixture of different species of pine cones; pinion, loblolly, Douglas fir and sand pine. The combination gives variety to the package and helps us give full value. HOW ARE THEY MADE? Natural pine cones are dipped into hot liquid paraffin wax and while still hot, the cones are tumbled in special equipment where the two color compounds are applied. Once the wax cools and hardens, it holds the color compounds on the cones. HOW LONG WILL THEY GIVE THE COLOR EFFECT? A single cone will have a color effect for about 6 to 8 minutes. Typically we find ½# of color cones will be the amount used in one evening. WHERE ARE THEY USED? Color cones should only be used in wood fires including wood burning fireplaces and campfires. They should not be used in gas log fireplaces. DO THEY LEAVE A RESIDUE? A well established fire will completely burn up the cone and leave no residue. CAUTIONS: Although low in toxicity, the color compounds should not be ingested. Both compounds can irritate the eyes. FATWOOD WHAT IS THE PRODUCT? Fatwood is the resin rich heartwood that is found in decaying pine stumps in southern pine forests. Some people call it by other names such as lighter, heartwood and kindling but these are often not true fatwood. Fatwood comes only from pine trees and it is the resin rich portion of the pine tree stump that is true fatwood. Wood from other softwood or hardwood trees is not fatwood. WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS? It is completely natural pine sticks that are extremely rich in resin. It is cut from the old pine stumps that are found in the woods after the trees were tapped for resin and then cut for lumber long ago. The tapping operation resulted in resin rich sections of the stump that remained when the other portions decomposed. HOW ARE THEY USED? Simply place one or two sticks among your stacked logs and light them. The fatwood is so rich in resin that one match easily lights a piece and the burning sticks will start your fire in a natural way. They give a delightful aroma to the hearth. WHERE ARE THEY USED? To start wood fires in fireplaces, campfires and because the product is completely natural they can be used to start charcoal cooking fires. DO THEY LEAVE A RESIDUE? No CAUTIONS: Fatwood is handled exactly the same way as any natural firewood. PINE CONE FIRESTARTERS WHAT IS THE PRODUCT?
