Boy's Gymnastics Skills for the New Gymnast: Tumbling Fundamentals (Video)
This video features John Roethlisberger, '92, '96, & '00 Olympian, Pan American Games Gold Medallist, 12X USA Champion, 15X NCAA All-American, and 10X Big Ten Champion. Tumbling skills are the cornerstone of gymnastics. In Tumbling Fundamentals, Olympic Gymnast John Roethlisberger takes you through the basic lead-up skills and activities that are designed to introduce the basics of tumbling by incorporating tumbling basics with fun and challenging skills in five different sections: Body Positions; 8 different positions. Incorporating Basic Jumps with Sticks 4 positions. Incorporating Forward Rolls; basic forward roll techniques using the Wedge, are conducted prior to incorporating the Forward Roll with a Straight, Pike, Straddle, Twist jumps, and a 5-skill routine. Handstands; introduced with a lunge and incorporating all forward roll positions. Back Rolls; first taught with the Wedge, then incorporate the Tuck, Pike, Straddle, and Back Extension roll to handstand. All skill progressions are enthusiastically coached by Roethlisberger, demonstrated by young male gymnasts, and include appropriate safety tips and spotting techniques.
