About the Editor Neil J. Dougherty, IV, is a professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Studies at Rutgers University. A nationally recognized speaker and author on the topic of safety and liability in physical activity and sport, Dougherty has written or edited seven textbooks, including Sport, Physical Activity, and the Law (Human Kinetics, 1994). He also has written more than 25 journal articles and has made more than 80 national and regional presentations. Dougherty has served as president of the School and Community Safety Society of America (SCSSA) since 1996 and has received two SCSSA awards A<>A-- the Charles Peter Yost Professional Service Award (1997) and the Scholar Award (1994). He has extensive teaching experience in risk management as well as consulting experience on matters pertaining to tort liability in recreational activities.
