A native of Sacramento, California, Natalie Gulbis started playing golf at age 4. She credits her father, John Gulbis, as the individual who most influenced her career. She won four collegiate tournaments while at the University of Arizona, including the NCAA West Regional. She was named a First-Team All-American in 2001. That same year, in her first attempt, she qualified for the LPGA Tour. Always improving, in 2004 Gulbis recorded her best season so far by ranking 18th on the Tour in driving distance (261 yards) and 21st in birdie putts (296).
