When Dave Winfield graduated from the University of Minnesota, four professional sports teams in three different sports wanted him. Choosing baseball proved to be the right choice. In his 22-season career, Winfield won the Gold Glove seven times, led the Toronto Blue Jays to their first championship and amassed 3,110 career hits. As a New York Yankee, Winfield averaged 27 home runs per season and became the first Yankee since Joe DiMaggio to drive in 100 or more runs in five straight seasons. As one of only seven players who are members of the 3,000-hit and 400 home run club, Winfield was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2001.
