Portfolios are an excellent way to document how well student and teacher standards are being met. This authentic assessment tool provides a much more complete picture of student achievement than standardized knowledge, skill, and fitness tests. And professional portfolios more accurately reflect a teacher's skills than multiple-choice tests. Professional and Student Portfolios for Physical Education presents practical, step-by-step procedures and tips for organizing portfolio systems for your students and for yourself. Based on teacher standards and K-12 content standards, these portfolio systems can be used throughout your career as a physical educator. Preservice teachers can use them as they prepare for their first teaching positions. Practicing teachers will find them helpful not only in assessing the progress of their K-12 students, but also in growing professionally and maintaining their teaching effectiveness. Filled with ready-to-use forms, handouts, and charts, this time-saving guide allows you to focus your energies on teaching while helping you increase accountability and student motivation. You'll find sample portfolio systems for: a pre service teacher education program, an elementary school program, a middle school program, a high school program, and an inservice teacher appraisal. Illustrative materials such as reflection sheets, work samples, self-assessment checklists, conferencing formats, and evaluation rubrics are provided for each system. You'll learn what to include in the portfolios, how to assemble and organize them, and how to evaluate them. The authentic assessment movement is gaining momentum-don't be left behind! Follow the steps outlined in Professional and Student Portfolios for Physical Education to achieve greater educational effectiveness and accountability. About the Author Vincent J.
