A 15-year study of physical and mental development in teens and young adults DESCRIPTION This monograph presents the results of a 15-year longitudinal study of physical and mental development in a group of males and females from their teen years to adulthood. The study breaks new ground not only by including measurements of lifestyle and behavior in its assessment of health in young people, but also by giving greater emphasis to these psychosocial factors than to traditional physiological components of health. The Amsterdam Growth Study, which was conducted between 1976 and 1991, is an invaluable reference for exercise physiologists, exercise psychologists, and epidemiologists. The monograph attempts to determine whether there are critical periods of change in the health of maturing adolescents and, if so, to explain possible causes for these changes.
