Easy-to-use software that selects the best equation to quickly calculate body composition DESCRIPTION This easy-to-use DOS software program includes equations for five methods of measuring body composition: skinfold, anthropometric, bioelectrical impedance, near infrared interactance, and underwater weighing. It also includes equations for eight populations (white, black, hispanic, Asian, native American, athlete, obese, and anorexic) and four age groups (children, teens, adults, and elderly people). Assessment is quick and easy. Users can identify a protocol and equation from a menu list or enter in the demographics about their subjects and the program automatically selects the best formula for assessing body composition. Results may be saved to a file, retrieved for analysis, and compared to normative data. Also serves as a companion resource for Heyward and Stolarczyk's book Applied Body Composition Assessment. Ng is professor of physical education and director of the Kinesiology Lab at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. During his more than 20 years as a college instructor, Ng has specialized primarily in exercise science and has taught courses in anatomy, exercise physiology, and biomechanics. He also has spent most of his career working with computers and programming and developing applications for them in exercise science. One of his most noteworthy contributions is his development and programming of interactive video coursework for the I'm SPECIAL Adapted Physical Education Interactive Videodisk Project, a venture that received the 1991 Southern Educational Communications Association Special Recognition Award for Technology Programming and the 1993 Institute of Creative Research and the Sport Academy NASPE Best Video Contest Award. Ng earned his EdD from the University of Northern Colorado in 1980. Not only has he written numerous papers on the application of technology in physical education, he also has delivered many presentations on the subject at the state, national, and international levels.
