With grapes sourced from the Andes mountain region, it will broaden your horizons and give you the pleasure of a fine glass of wine all at the same time. You receive (3) 750ml bottles. ABOUT THE REGION: Argentina's wine industry has taken enormous strides in the last 10 years with increasing foreign and domestic investment reshaping their wine for global export. Argentina's vineyards are unique as they are some of the highest in the world, from 2,300 up to 5,000 ft. Their signature grapes are the red Malbec (Bordeaux blending grape) and the white Torrentes. Additionally, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Semillon all grow well in Argentina. While there are a few emerging wine regions, Mendoza is the most important and most frequently on wine labels. ABOUT THE WINERY: Don Felipe Rutini, an Italian immigrant from the winemaking region of Le Marche, Italy, founded bodegas La Rural in 1885. With a degree in agriculture, he focused on quality from the start. One of the first varietals he planted was Cabernet Sauvignon, in the Maipu vineyard, where La Rural grows Cabernet Sauvignon today. In 1925, the Rutini's planted their first vines in Tupungato region of Mendoza, a well-known site for its vine cultivation. But it wasn't until the 80s and 90s that the Tupungato Valley would become the "Napa Valley" of Mendoza, with every Argentine and foreign winery investing and buying land there for vineyards. For decades, the wines of La Rural have been leaders of quality in Argentina. Seven years ago, Nicolas Catena, a pioneer in the Argentine wine industry, became a partner at La Rural with Don Rodolfo Reina Rutini, the grandson of Don Felipe Rutini. The winery has undergone substantial modernization and benefited from Catena's outstanding vineyard management team. The goal, as with every other Nicolas Catena project: to produce world-class wines that can stand with the best in the world. ABOUT THE WINE: The grapes are sourced from the Tupungato region in the Andes Mountains, at an elevation of 3,000 to 5,000 feet. The vineyards experience a range of temperature between daytime highs and nighttime lows. With its unique microclimate, the Tupungato region produces grapes with exceptional fruit flavor and structure. This Cabernet Sauvignon shows fruit forward aromas and highlights the flavor of the earth of Argentina. While it has big flavors of Cabernet, it displays spice and earthiness of the soil. Vanilla and chocolate flavors lead into a spicy palate with hints of coffee and well-balanced tannins. Try it tonight with grilled meats, BBQ, roasted lamb, game meats and aged cheeses. This Cabernet will age well for 3-5 years. If you're a member of our Wine Discovery Club (sold separately), this was one of the selected wines in your February 2006 assortment. Limited quantities are available for your enjoyment while supplies last. Win
