The Alegre Collection alloy metal basins are created with the sand casting manufacturing method. While all the bowls are created from the same molds; small differences will be detected in each one. Due to the sand casting technique, small pin holes or porosity may be present on the surface of the bowl. Some unevenness in the finish can be present. These differences are not considered defects. After casting, the bowls are trimmed and then finished. We will have two finishes. Our current bowl is only available with the polished finish. The polished finish is applied by hand using polishing lathes. As with all metal bowls, maintenance is important. Unlike plated finishes this is a solid material and can take vigorous cleaning and polishing. Remember, abrasives are not recommended. These bowls can be refinished with polishing machines by trained professionals. Please refer to our recommended maintenance instructions for regular maintenance. As with all natural metal, color and finish will mature over time. If not polished this alloy will darken and take on the look of real pewter; not the applied electro-plated pewter that we see in plumbing and hardware fixtures.
